Clansphere alternative: what to look for when switching
Many clans have used an older clan system for years, for example Clansphere, and at some point wonder whether it is time for something new. We show how to tell whether a switch makes sense, how to prepare it and what an alternative should be able to do.
Important: Clansphere is a third-party product. How current a particular installation or version is depends on your setup. We make no statements about the vendor, we name criteria you can check yourself. We do not give legal advice.
1. How to tell a switch is due
- No more updates: Your version gets no security updates, or the vendor no longer responds.
- Outdated technology: The system only runs on an older PHP version, and your host is phasing it out.
- Design from the past: The site looks bad on phones or no longer looks up to date.
- Maintenance is tedious: Schedule, results and applications cost too much time or only work through a specialist.
- Missing extensions: Things like a live display for streams, a partner page or a media kit do not exist.
With security and technology you should not hesitate for long: A system without updates can be an entry point. Check the version in the admin and the vendor’s information.
2. Before the switch: back up everything
- Back up database and files: A complete copy that you can restore in an emergency.
- List the content: Teams, player lists, news, match reports, pages (About us, rules), partners.
- Collect images and logos: Team photos, player pictures, logos, banners.
- Note important addresses: Which pages are linked or found on Google?
- Secure access: Host, domain, database and administrator accounts.
3. What an alternative should be able to do
Must have
Teams and player profiles, schedule and results, news, application form, contact, legal notice and privacy policy, display on phones, regular security updates.
That way the new site has at least the scope of the old one.
Nice to have
Several designs and your own colors, roles and permissions for the team, live display for streams, partner and sponsor page, statistics without cookies, languages (German and English), backups and updates with one click.
Saves work and makes the organization look more professional.
4. The move step by step
- Test the new site: Set up the new system in parallel on a test address or locally so the old site keeps running.
- Enter the content: Teams, players, current matches, news. Older content only if it is really needed.
- Check the mandatory pages: Legal notice and privacy policy with your details (see legal notice and privacy).
- Set a deadline: Preferably outside the main playing season, with a notice on Discord and social media.
- Switch over: The domain now points to the new site (see domain and hosting).
- Follow-up check: Test phone, forms, links and error pages.
5. Addresses, search engines and visitors
Important for everyone who is found via Google: If the addresses of the subpages change, the old addresses should redirect to the new ones so that visitors and search engines do not run into nothing. If the domain stays the same, do not change it. Submit the new sitemap in Google Search Console and watch in the following weeks whether everything is found.

Does my domain stay?
Yes, the domain belongs to you and can point to the new site.
